Four Great Reasons To Add Avocado To Your Smoothies
Avocado is a unique fruit that originated in Mexico. Avocado has spread throughout the Western United States and is now popular throughout much of the world. Avocado is the main ingredient in guacamole dip, and is also used in many other dishes, especially Mexican and California style foods.
Avocado can also be added to smoothies. The skin and pit should be avoided and thrown away. The easiest way to add avocado to your smoothies is to cut it in half, scoop out the pit with a spoon, and then spoon the avocado flesh directly into your blender.
Here are four great reasons to add avocado to your next smoothie.
Avocado Health Benefits
In the United States, the avocado first became popular in the health conscious state of California. People began to add it to their salads and onto their organic burgers. These early avocado eaters were correct, the avocado is an exceptionally healthy fruit.
Avocados contain notable amounts of Vitamin K, folate, Vitamin C, potassium, a range of Vimtan Bs, Vitamin E, and fiber. These nutrients promote healthy cell growth, help muscle growth, lower cholesterol. Avocados contain more potassium than bananas. There’s a bunch of really great vitamins and minerals in avocados and the all play an important roll in keeping your body healthy.
Avocados are good for your heart and your eyes. They help breakdown carbohydrates and help regulate your blood sugar levels. They support skin and hair health and provide a boost to your immune system.
No matter what diet you are on, doctors agree that a mostly plant-based diet is healthy. Avocados are a great way to add a non-sweet fruit to your diet.
Avocados Have Healthy Fats
Along with the list of vitamins and minerals, avocados are known for their high fat content. The plant-based fats found in avocados are actually good for you and are essential for a healthy body. Our body must have a certain amount of healthy fats every day. These fats help with things like the central nervous system and the brain. In fact, every single cell in your body depends on the fats that you eat to stay healthy.
The avocado is a beautiful plant because it is mostly fat. This is very rare to find. Most plant based foods are high in carbohydrates. The fats in the avocado really make it a unique fruit.
These healthy fats are similar in chemical make up to the fats found in olive oil.
Avocados are a great food for those on a low-carb diet.
A Low Sugar Fruit
Unlike many other fruits, avocados contain almost no sugar. They do not even fit onto the glycemic index. This is another train that makes avocados a really rare food. Most fruits attract animals by being sweet. Animals then come, eat the fruit and spread the seeds.
Avocados are the perfect fruit for anyone who is worried about their sugar intake, especially those who are diabetic. Avocados provide many of the nutritional benefits of other fruits, but without the natural sugars.
Great Texture
The unique makeup of the avocado creates a smooth and thick texture when added to a smoothie. Adding avocado to a smoothie increase the fat content of the smoothie. Fats tend to be thick and smooth. Again, this of olive oil, heavy whipping cream or even ice cream. These are all high-fat foods.
This type of texture is great in smoothies. There’s a local Vietnamese sandwich place near my work which serves sweet avocado shakes, and the texture of these is so thick.
Bonus: They’re Great In Green Smoothies
I highly recommend adding avocados to green smoothie recipes. A lot of green smoothie recipes that I have come across lack a thick ingredient and the smoothie ends up being watery and thin. Avocado can add a creamy texture to these watery green smoothies.
Avocados also contain a lot of nutrients that are lacking in other green smoothie ingredients. Kale, spinach, etc. are great for you, but they don’t contain the same types of nutrients that avocado does. Mixing avocado and other green smoothie ingredients creates a more balanced blend of vitamins and minerals.
